founders' story

After reading Brandi’s Story, you might be wondering who Brandi “selected” to be her family.

They’re Jim and Iwona Paolucci, and they experienced first-hand the unique bond that exists between so many humans and dogs. At that first encounter, Brandi wouldn’t leave the Paoluccis’ side – and they were not about to leave hers either. Iwona was reminded of a dog her family had as a child. Jim, until this point not really a “dog person,” was taken by Brandi’s sweet disposition.

Having Brandi in the family, learning more of the sad fate that awaits many shelter dogs, and learning about the network of shelters and organizations working to save dogs, the Paoluccis jumped in. Jim and Iwona, and many friends, co-workers and supporters, began helping PAWS New England in their mission of saving lives, one dog at time.

Since forming in 2005, PAWS has focused on Tennessee’s Tipton County Animal Shelter. With help from people like the Paoluccis, the 90% euthanasia rate at TCAS dropped to just 15% by 2013. PAWS has rescued 7,000 dogs and counting.

Moved by his personal rescue experience and the results achieved by volunteering and fund raising, Jim asked, “how can we do more to provide a revenue stream to dog rescue?” That question was the start of The Brandi Project in 2014.

The vision is for an organization that will grow to have an even bigger impact, supporting more rescue organizations in more locations across the country – and ultimately saving more dogs and uniting them with good homes.
