I
wanted to hear about more humans who adopted rescue dogs. So I (with
some help) held an adoption story contest. I received great stories, and
although my heart was breaking more than once, by the end of each one I
was barking with joy.
A story from the Simkowski family in Connecticut had me barking the loudest (sorry neighbors) and so I awarded them some cool Brandi Project merchandise, and I’m happily printing their story here:
“We have been adopting rescue dogs for many years and currently have four at our home in Connecticut. Our most memorable has to be our latest rescue, Penny Lane. Penny and her pups were rescued from Texas hours before they were to be euthanized. It was no small effort to get them out of Texas and up to New England. It included an airplane, cars, a posse of volunteers, and a dedicated dog rescue group, PAWS New England. After all of her pups had been adopted, we learned that no one had inquired about Penny. We immediately asked if we could adopt her. After all the abuse she suffered (including the multiple buckshot pellets that reside in her body; the loss of vision in one eye from trauma; and the worst case of mange imaginable, that left her bald in the blazing Texas sun), she remains the kindest, gentlest, snuggliest dog we know. When certain people thought we were crazy for adopting an abused pit bull mix, we knew we had to take a chance on Penny. She is so worth it! We can't imagine not having her in the house or watching her chase after a ball in the backyard.
Penny Lane has touched so many lives with her story and she has well over 800 Facebook followers who delight in her updates. She is certainly a special dog.”
A big, wet face lick to the Simkowskis and Penny Lane!
See you next month in Brandi’s corner.
Happy tails!

As a former shelter dog, you can’t imagine the happiness I feel being part of a loving family. I know that my canine friends in shelters now would be just about wagging their tails off with excitement to find a forever home in 2016. And I know that humans would find that bringing a dog into their lives would add a whole new dimension of fun and unconditional love.
That said, I’d like to wrap up 2015 with some heartfelt appreciation for everyone who has supported The Brandi Project this past year. A Great Dane-sized thank you to all The Brandi Project volunteers and donors (each gets at least three Brandi virtual face licks). Because of their generosity, the Brandi Project, in just three years, has raised over $27,000 for dog rescue!
Together, we can keep the momentum going strong in 2016. Dollar donations and purchasing TBP merchandise are super – and so is simply spreading the word about the work we do with friends, family and colleagues. Sharing our website or a post from our Facebook page are just two easy ways to make a difference. With your help, we can make The Brandi Project a household name. Woof!
Oh, one more thing. If you’ve already brought a rescue dog into your life, you can share your story with us by emailing it to brandi@thebrandiproject.com. I have quite a bit of influence here at The Brandi Project, and I’ll do my absolute best to get it published.
A happy and prosperous New Year to all.
See you next month in Brandi’s corner.

The crispness in the air on my morning walks can only mean it’s time for family, gifts, and good will to men -- and dogs. Cheers, here come the holidays.
My Dad likes to celebrate with visits to friends and family. I like to give an extra lick hello to the people we visit, and lay quietly for them to scratch my belly. We both give and receive in this little bit of pure enjoyment.
On a recent belly rub, I was laying back and thinking how great it would be to have more of my shelter-dog friends able to enjoy the blessings of a family like I do – and of course give those great families love and companionship all year long. I think of the fun the little humans could have playing with a puppy instead of plastic toys and other stuff that is forgotten in a couple of weeks.
If this sounds interesting (hint, hint), then visit my Facebook page (facebook.com/thebrandiproject) to see many of my canine friends that would love a forever home.
The Brandi Project has partnered with Paws New England ( www.pawsnewengland.com ), the rescue I came from, and with East Greenwich Animal Protection League (egapl.com). By supporting these great groups, we share a common goal of finding every shelter dog a forever home!
Even if you’re not up for a canine buddy just yet, your merchandise purchases from The Brandi Project help dog-rescue heroes like these continue their vital work.
